Growing up, I was a massive fan of the web-slinging hero. His tongue-in-cheek witticisms and the fast paced action sequences of Marvel’s greatest super hero (in my opinion, at least) were enthralling, to say the least.
When Sam Raimi’s 2002 cinematic adaptation of the aforementioned first hit the silver screen, I was ecstatic. This excitement multiplied exponentially following the 2004 sequel and came crashing down with furious disappointment after the franchise’s closing instalment was released in 2007.
Then, in 2012, Marc Webb restored my faith in the series with The Amazing Spider-Man (and credit where credit is due to Andrew Garfield as well, who helmed the piece with all the original charm and charisma of the titular character, that I had long since forgotten). Now, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is at the cusp of its release, and the latest trailer promises a sensational follow-up to boot.

So, as we can see, a lot will be going down. Our friendly neighbourhood Spider Man faces his darkest [cinematic] journey to date. Poised to square off against an array of foes, most notably of which is the truly imposing-looking Dane DeHaan as Harry Osbourne, Peter Parker appears to be on the brink of uncovering his mysterious past, whilst still fitting in time to kick some ass!
Not only is he faced with confronting Electro (Jamie Foxx), The Rhino (Paul Giamatti) and the Green Goblin (who, according to IMDB, will be portrayed by DeHann’s Harry Osbourne), but also a number of shots hint towards Vulture and Doctor Octopus being involved in some capacity. Could this be a hint towards the infamous Sinister Six?
Too many villains were one of the main reasons Spider-Man 3 was such a flop (that, and the unfortunately unforgettable dance number), so a large roster of adversaries in this latest instalment could be a problem again.
Regardless, I’m still excited, and I hope you are too! Time will tell whether or not the film is a success so, until then, I can wait in hopeful glee for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is due to be released on 2nd May 2014.
