March 13th in Movie History

Britain’s most violent prisoner, science fiction superstars and Academy Award winners all have March 13th in common!

Released on this day…

2008: Starring Tom Hardy as the titular character, Bronson hit cinemas on this date in 2008. Hardy delivers a truly captivating performance as [born] Michael Gordon Peterson, whose sentence of 7 years for robbing a post office escalated into 30 years of solitary confinement. During this time, Peterson fully transformed into his alter ego: Charles Bronson.

This biopic is even more impressive when you consider that Peterson/Bronson was dubbed “the most violent prisoner in Britain”, and yet Hardy still manages to bring a certain (albeit, disturbing) charm to the role.

Born on this day…

1901: Paul Fix, who was a well-known American movie and television character actor, garnered acclaim through a variety of roles: from To Kill a Mocking Bird (1962) and The Rifleman (1958), to appearances in Star Trek (1966) and Battlestar Galactica (1979). Paul Fix passed away in 1983, just 2 years after his final acting credit on Quincy M.E. (1981).

1957: Shannon Tweed rose to stardom after she became Miss November 1981 for Playboy Magazine. She quickly established herself as a talented actress as Diana Hunter in the television series Falcon Crest (1982-1983) and has since been credited as an actress for 102 productions, including Spongebob Squarepants (2007)!

Died on this day…

2006: Maureen Staplet, who was 80 years old when she passed away, earned a multitude of Awards throughout her career for her work in film, theatre and television. She was revered so much that, in 1981, she was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame!

2013: Malachi Throne, who died at the age of 84, was a respected frequenter of the Star Trek series, from Original series to Next Generation and, finally, New Voyages. However, sci-fi isn’t all the respected actor was known for, as he was credited as an actor for over 100 productions in his career.

Obviously, this isn’t all that happened on March 13th in MOVIE HISTORY; why not let us know who or what you think deserves to be on this short list!
