March 12th in Movie History

I thought I’d have a go at a new feature exploring what happened in movie history on this day. Maybe I’ll keep at it, maybe I won’t, but here’s to hoping!

Released on this day…

1971: Robert Wise’s science fiction classic, The Andromeda Strain (1971) opened in cinemas on this day. Based on Michael Crichton’s best selling novel of the same name, The Andromeda Strain joins a group of the world’s scientific elite as they investigate a mysterious alien virus that threatens to destroy life on Earth.

A really exciting film starring Arthur Hill, David Wayne, James Olson and Kate Reid that will have science fiction aficionados on the edge of their seats!

Born on this day…

1968: Aaron Eckhart, best known for playing Harvey “Two Face” Dent in The Dark Knight (2008) and Adam in the upcoming I, Frankenstein, Eckhart is 46 today!

1949: Rob Cohen, who was an executive producer for the flawless Schwarzenegger classic, The Running Man (1987) has turned 65 today!

Died on this day…

1977: George Eldredge, of Psycho (1960) fame died on this date at the age of 78.

2001: Morton Downey Jr., who featured in Predator 2 (1990) and Revenge of the Nerds III: The Next Generation (1992) passed away at the age of 67 on this date.

Obviously, this isn’t all that happened on March 12th in MOVIE HISTORY; why not let us know who or what you think deserves to be on this short list!
